Smoking is defined as a deliberate inhalation of smoke-burning plant parts into the oral cavity or into the lower respiratory tract and lungs. The most widespread is the smoking of crushed leaves of the nicotine-containing tobacco plant in the form of cigarettes, cigarillos or cigars. Also, some drugs, v.a. Hashish and marijuana to be taken by smoking. In the cigarette smoke go 65 to 75% of the nicotine in tobacco over. When inhaled, 85 to 95% of the smoke nicotine absorbed by the body, donÕt inhale only 5%. In addition to nicotine in tobacco smoke are significant amounts of cancer-causing substances (eg, polycyclic hydrocarbons, nitrosamines, tar components), contain heavy metals (eg arsenic, cadmium) and toxins (eg cyanide). Physical effects of tobacco smoke are especially a reduced performance, vitamin deficiency, decreased blood flow (so-called smoker's leg) and promoting the development of cancer, especially in nose and throat, bronchial tubes (so-called smoking cancer) and lung, but also in bladder, stomach and kidney. Smoking is therefore the most important preventable cause of significant health damage dar.
